RECIPE: Pistachio & Sour Cherry Muesli

Cereal is so passé, who wants to have the same breakfast as everyone else out of some flimsy cardboard box?! Making your own muesli allows you complete dominion over the flavour combinations but I think this is a diamond duo if I ever did see one. Opt for rolled rather than porridge oats as otherwise you’ll end up with a mush and make sure to pick dried fruits that are both un-sulphured and unsweetened.

Makes 1 litre jar

  • 1.5 cups rolled oats (gluten free if necessary)
  • 1 cup buckwheat groats
  • 1 cup pistachios, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup flaxseed
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup dried sour cherries, roughly chopped

 

Place everything in a bowl and give it a good mix then decant into your chosen vessel (I like a good 1 litre clip top jar for easy access but airtight sealing). It will keep for 3-4 weeks out of direct sunlight.

Serve with fresh fruit as I have done here, yoghurt, sprinkled on top of a smoothie, with your chosen milk or however you like to enjoy it.
