RECIPE: Berry and Basil Breakfast Bowl

I love to start my day with a smoothie for a couple of reasons.
Number 1 it is possibly the quickest way to get something onto the table in the morning. Number 2 the combinations are literally endless and you can experiment with absolutely anything and everything (sometimes leading to slightly odd results!)

From a nutritional perspective smoothies are absolute winners as well, I can easily get 6-8 portions of fresh produce into my body before I even left the house, including some things you may not necessarily think to eat raw.


For this particular blend I was looking to harness some of the naturally medicinal power of fresh herbs so I have paired beautifully zingy basil, the vibrant citrus notes of parsley and the sumptuous decadence of Motion Nutrition’s vegan peanut protein powder. Serves 1

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh spinach leaves
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil
  • 1/4 avocado
  • 1/4 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1 serving Motion Nutrition vegan protein (optional)

To serve: your favourite sprinkle toppings; chopped nuts, seeds, coconut, cacao nibs, fresh berries etc. I’ve opted for tiger nuts, ground flaxseed and a couple of extra parsley leaves

Add everything to a blender and purée until silkily smooth. Decant into a bowl, top with your sprinkles and enjoy! 😀
