I always try to encourage an understanding that everything to do with our health is interlinked, & likewise that using food in a medicinal way does not mean we detach it from enjoyment, in fact the opposite should be the case. Because then the ‘therapy’ becomes the preference & long term healthy lifestyles are adopted.

I’ve spoken of the importance of gut health for hormone balance & yes it’s absolutely key.

The thing is effective gut motility is not something I see in the majority of clients, most will have some digestive dysfunction at some stage. Whether it’s too slow or too fast this recipe is your ticket for a far happier intestinal tune however, & in addition to bringing all the goods for your gut it also targets hormone support in the flaxseed base, liver stimulation from the bitter textures of the toppings & blood sugar management comes in the cooked apple too.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cold milled flaxseed
  • 2 tablespoons ground almonds
  • 1 heaped teaspoon Ceylon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup apple purée
  • 1 cup liquid of choice – water, milk/nut milk, herbal tea or apple cooking liquor
  • To serve: 1 tablespoon each per person of yoghurt of your choice, cacao nibs & walnuts

Preparation

Add everything except the toppings to a pan & simmer until thickened.

Serve, sprinkle & enjoy!
